How to Play Guess The User

Complete rules, progressive clue frame mechanics, scoring breakdown, and deduction strategy.

1. Game Objective

In Guess The User, your goal is to identify which member of your Discord server authored an isolated message snippet. You have up to 5 attempts to guess correctly. With each guess or skip, a new progressive clue frame unlocks, revealing surrounding conversation context, timestamps, channel topics, and participant avatars.

2. The 5 Progressive Clue Frames

Each round unfolds across five distinct clue frames that provide increasing context:

Frame 1: Target Message Only (50 Pts)

Only the highlighted target message is visible. The author is masked as Target User with a mystery avatar. Timestamps and channel names are hidden.

Frame 2: Context Above Added (40 Pts)

The message sent immediately prior (-1) in the conversation thread is revealed, showing the prompt or topic that the target user was replying to.

Frame 3: Context Below Added (30 Pts)

The message sent immediately after (+1) is revealed, illustrating how other server members reacted or continued the discussion.

Frame 4: 5-Message Thread & Metadata (20 Pts)

The full 5-message conversation flow (-2, -1, Target, +1, +2) is displayed. Exact date, time (e.g. 11:42 PM), and channel name (e.g. #general) are revealed.

Frame 5: Member Avatars & Usernames (10 Pts)

The real Discord profile pictures and usernames of all surrounding chatters are uncovered, leaving only the Target User's identity masked.

3. The Yellow Chatter Deduction Rule

If your guess is incorrect for the target message, but the user you guessed is an author of another message in the 5-message log, your guess card turns IN CONVERSATION (Yellow):

Immediate Message Reveal: The yellow chatter's message is immediately revealed in the chat log, including their real avatar, name, and an amber GUESSED CHATTER badge, even if you have not reached that frame yet.
Sandwiched Message Blurring: Any locked message positioned in between unlocked messages (e.g. between a Yellow guess at -2 and the target quote at 0) appears blurred with a lock icon until naturally unlocked by frame progression.
Yellow Bonus Points: Earning a yellow clue awards a +10 point bonus when you solve the target user in subsequent attempts!

5. Game Modes

Daily Challenge: Three synchronized rounds each day seeded from the calendar date. Everyone in your server receives the same daily challenge!
Endless Practice: Play an unlimited series of random quotes across your imported channels.
Co-Op Voice Mode: Team up in Discord voice channels. All team members view the same board and share strikes collaboratively.
Compete Mode: Real-time competitive race! Players guess simultaneously on their personal attempt boards; fastest and highest points wins the crown.

6. Pro Deduction Strategies

Check Capitalization & Punctuation: Does the chatter write with lowercase initial letters? Do they end sentences with multiple exclamation marks or no periods at all?
Look for Vocabulary Quirks: Nicknames, slang, and distinctive phrasing are often unique to specific members.
Timezone & Sleep Schedules (Frame 4): A message sent at 4:30 AM narrows down your server's night owls or international members.
Channel Context (Frame 4): A gaming quote in #anime or a code snippet in #tech-talk drastically limits the candidate pool.
