About Guess The User

A privacy-first, community-driven Discord deduction game inspired by Wordle and GeoGuessr.

1. The Vision & Origin

Discord servers are filled with years of hilarious out-of-context quotes, running jokes, and distinctive messaging personalities. Every active friend group has members who talk in all-caps, users who overuse specific emojis, individuals who post at 4:00 AM, and veterans known for particular conversational quirks.

Guess The User was born out of a desire to turn those memorable community moments into a structured, daily deduction puzzle. Modeled after games like Wordle and Guess The Album, players are presented with an isolated message taken from their server's history and must deduce the original author using progressive clue frames.

2. Core Gameplay Pillars

Start with a single stripped quote. Unlock surrounding conversation context, timestamps, channel topic clues, and member disambiguation over 5 attempts.

⚡ Yellow Chatter Deduction

Guessing a chatter who is present anywhere in the 5-message conversation log immediately unlocks their message and rewards bonus points.

🔒 Zero-Data-Storage Privacy

All message processing happens locally in your web browser. No Discord chat logs or server messages are ever stored in external databases.

🎙️ Native Discord Voice Activity

Play directly inside Discord voice channels with your server members using the Discord Embedded App SDK, with live Co-Op and Compete multiplayer.

3. Privacy & Client-Side Architecture

Privacy is the foundation of Guess The User. Because Discord server chats often contain personal discussions, nicknames, and private jokes, the entire application was intentionally engineered around a zero-knowledge, client-side paradigm:

In-Browser Parsing: When server data is loaded via a JSON export or through our temporary pairing code, all regex sanitization, user mapping, and challenge generation occur entirely in client-side memory and browser IndexedDB.
Ephemeral TTL Gateway: In multiplayer mode or when using the companion bot, quote packets are stored in volatile server RAM with a strict rolling 2-hour Time-To-Live (TTL). Once completed, memory is deallocated and purged.
Automatic Sanitization: User mentions (<@id>) and channel mentions (<#id>) are automatically resolved into readable text, while sensitive Discord tokens and attachments are stripped prior to rendering.

Zero Cloud Logs: We do not operate databases storing user messages. Your chat data belongs to your server, stays on your device, and can be cleared with a single click.

4. Technology Stack

Guess The User is built with modern, performant web and gaming technologies:

Frontend: React 19, TypeScript, and Vite for ultra-responsive game state management.
Styling: Tailwind CSS with custom Discord dark-theme UI components replicating Discord's desktop interface.
Multiplayer Networking: PeerJS and WebRTC for serverless peer-to-peer live multiplayer room synchronization.
Discord Embedded SDK: Full integration with Discord Activities for frictionless voice-channel gaming.
Storage: HTML5 IndexedDB for zero-latency local caching of community datasets.

5. Sustainable & Non-Intrusive Monetization

Guess The User is a community-supported independent project. We avoid aggressive or disruptive monetization:

Mobile devices, tablets, and native Discord Activities are 100% ad-free.
On desktop browsers, quiet display advertisements help cover cloud hosting and bandwidth costs.
Players can obtain a free Session Pass (by waiting 10 seconds in the Support menu) to disable ads for their entire session, or support development on Buy Me a Coffee.
